Keep Your Focus on the Road

Every time I’m in the passengers seat and I’m going someplace, I always notice at least a couple drivers in other cars using their phones. The drivers use their phones for all sorts of things such as calling, texting, and holding it up and giving it instructions. I’ve even seen people using Snapchat.

It doesn’t matter which way I see it happening, it always makes me feel annoyed. For many people, driving feels easy and they know how to do it. The problem is, they start to become overconfident in their driving skills and believe that it is fine if they use their phone. But the thing is, it’s not fine.

Every year, thousands of people are killed due to distracted driving/drivers. The problem is, when people are using their phones while driving, their full attention is not dedicated to driving. Their phone has a portion of their focus.

Having your phone in your hand and using it is not okay when you’re driving. Even if you’re stopped at a red light and you pick up your phone to send a text message. This not okay because your mind is still thinking about that text for 27 seconds after you send it.

Well, what’s the difference between talking to someone on the phone and talking to someone say, in your passengers seat? You might ask. The difference is the person in your passengers seat is like an extra pair of eyes so if something isn’t right, there is a good chance they’ll tell you about it.

The person on the other end of the phone isn’t with you so they can’t see what’s going on. If you would like to listen to music while you drive, make sure you set your radio to a certain station or turn on your music playlist BEFORE you start to drive. Then leave it alone until your car is parked and you’ve reached your destination.

Driving is a huge responsibility and when you drive you’re in control of a couple thousand pound chunk of moving metal. I don’t want anyone to hurt anyone else, or get hurt themselves because they were on their phone while driving. So please, put down your phone when you drive.
