What is the Coronavirus and what you need to know about it.
The Coronaviruses are a group that can cause multiple symptoms including a runny nose, cough, sore throat and fever. Some are mild but can lead to pneumonia. They can spread through direct contact with an infected person that have any of the symptoms.
Researchers are still learning how the virus spreads from person to person.
“Coronaviruses, in general, are spread through close contact — a range of about 3 to 6 feet. The virus is primarily spread through a sick person coughing or sneezing on someone, said Dr. Kathy Lofy, a health officer in Washington state.”
How to prevent yourself from receiving coronavirus
The simplest prevention a person can do is properly washing their hands. Doctors recommend washing your hands with soap and water before eating, after using the bathroom, coughing, and sneezing, etc.
An effective way to clean your hands is to wet them with warm water, apply soap and scrub for at least 20 seconds.
Is it SARS?
No, SARS, known as a severe acute respiratory syndrome, is a type of coronavirus that was first reported in Asia in 2003.
While the SARS virus was being spread in Asia in 2003 the illness spread to more than two dozen countries and sickening 8,098 people around the world, killing 774.
This is a scary moment for the world, a virus that is spreading rapidly and researchers and scientists are working hard to figure a cure to this.
